We are Sand
Lizzie Van Buren, '22

I could play forever in the sand that made us.
The dunes swept like dust into our eyes and lips. Sand
Out of it, wet, came the drip-castles and mud pies
Where we taught each other how to create everything out of nothing.

The dunes swept like dust into our eyes and lips. Sand
Angels that left an imprint of our small sipid bodies in the place
Where we taught each other how to create everything out of nothing.
The sea called our names and we answered it, becoming dolphins. We are

Angels that leave an imprint of our small sipid bodies in the place
Where we become ourselves, our Heaven on Earth.
The sea called our names and we answered it, becoming dolphins. We are
All of us merpeople. The ocean salt runs clean in our veins. We are

Where we become ourselves, our Heaven on Earth
Is where all of us are united. It takes a village to raise a child. We are
All of us merpeople. The ocean salt runs clean in our veins. We are
All of us that child, and all of us the parent. Life

Is where all of us are united. It takes a village to raise a child. We are sand.
Out of it, wet, came the drip-castles and mud pies.
All of us that child, and all of us the parent. Life.
I could play forever in the sand that made us.
