Trust\r\nAmanda Henderson, '16\r\n\r\nTrust is a sickly child\r\na frail butterfly with one wing\r\nso when I watched you smother the insect in your hands \r\nI knew it would not survive and it hurt\r\nbecause it was already weak\r\n\r\nAnd in that moment the wildflowers that surrounded us\r\nturned into wildfires\r\nand when you tried to smother the flames\r\nyou were left with only burns on your hands\r\nand on your chest\r\n\r\nBut how frail are we\r\nto dangle others from an already fraying red string;\r\na string of trust that's bound to break?\r\nTrust is the child whose hands are always cold\r\nand whose cough never quite goes away\r\n\r\nBut what about the moments when trust's gentle caress\r\nis irresistible? She returns with open arms\r\nand rosy cheeks\r\nand she promises to never let go\r\nand that she'll do better this time\r\n\r\nIn its many manifestations, trust is not one entity\r\nneither fraying string, nor sickly child, nor lovely enchantress, nor injured butterfly \r\nit doesn't really matter at this point\r\nbecause I just decided\r\nto walk away from the flames \r\n\r\n\r\n<\/pre>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
