unwanted gifts\nShiloh Joyner, 16\r\n\r\nmy mother\r\ngave me form\r\ngave me breath\r\ngave me sight\r\ngave me beauty and song and the terrible\r\ngift of feeling.\r\ngave me this world in which i\r\nhave no place.\r\ngave me all these gifts\r\nthat can only harm me\r\ncan only suffocate\r\ncan only wither in my grasp\r\ncan only turn my heart\r\nshriveled,\r\nstarved, chalky.\r\nthrust me into a place i have no business\r\nwalking in\r\nwrapped around me this skin\r\nsewed me up inside of it\r\nleft me in the dark insides.\r\nnow i dream of\r\ncrows and wolves\r\nripping me apart\r\nteeth and beak tearing flesh\r\nsmiling, laughing,\r\npolite conversation turning nasty\r\nmyself, holding my innards close to me\r\nstomach ripped open\r\nseeing myself through the eyes of the beasts\r\nin my fever dreams i become the crow\r\nand the wolf\r\ntearing through my own skin,\r\ndown to muscle\r\ncracking bones until\r\nnothing of me remains\r\n\r\nwhen i wake will you \r\nthrow what's left of me\r\ninto the waves \r\n\r\n\r\n<\/pre>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
