What are our teachers thinking
As they assign us all these hours?
Don't they enjoy some leisure?
Time to stop and smell the flowers?

They all tell me that this is what it takes.
The strongest steel from the hottest flames burn
But I feel nothing like strong
As I forget how I love to learn.

Work harder!
Plan, manage! Just try, just TRY!
"Our young people are so distant."
Gee, I wonder why.

So, tell me, what do I do,
With this great big future resting on these bones?
Shouldn't life be more than every week,
Dodging new stones?

But the only thing I fear more than the due dates,
The tests, the essays, the pop quizzes on the fly,
Is the feeling of waking up one day,
And realizing that it's all passed me by.
