The Footsteps of Winter

The Footsteps of Winter
Lysette Stickney, '24

When thin tank tops turn into fleece sweaters
but coats are just too stifling

when houses are tangled in red and green lights
but some are still adorned with scattered scarecrows

when the chirping of birds in the morning is still present
but their sound morphs into a thinly veiled lullaby

when car windows begin to fog up
but they don't freeze over

you know winter is just down the street
taking its sweet time
