The Truth x4
Kristina Bell, '17

Laugh
When inside I have criedcriedcriedcried
Try to decide whether it's better
To keep on excusing
Or to swallow this pride

Swim
Floatfloatfloatfloat
Try to decide whether I'd rather
Drown in the current or
Sail to misery on the deck of your boat

Smile
Maskmaskmaskmask
Try to decide whether or not you still love me but
I'm too afraid to ask

Ignore
Neglectneglectneglectneglect
If happy people were a religion
You and I wouldn't qualify as a sect

Shove
The truth together we'll hidehidehidehide
Maybe some day soon
This gnawing will subside

Expect
That I'll still be aroundroundroundround
But all the while it is in your silence
That I am beginning to drown

Argue
Fightfightfightfight
Try to decide when we'll stop pretending
That you and I are right

Pretend
That I feel like myselfselfselfself
When really I'd just be an irrelevant little knickknack
If your life were a bookshelf
